IMPOSSIBLE KEYS
A mission is you’re all in – you accept that things may not be straightforward, you hope that it WON’T BE by the book because what fun would that be?!
ALWAYS BE EXPLORING
The world is yours to explore. Always be open to choosing a new path, a different way of doing things. Plan new adventures, investigate the possibilities, challenge yourself…always be exploring. Remember, the best views always come after the hardest climbs.
FACE YOUR FEARS
Take a deep breath and ‘Do the Impossible’. Five seconds of fear vs. a lifetime of regrets…be brave and just do it! My years of being dropped into complex environments, harsh sometimes extreme situations, has pushed me to face my fears and show courage at every turn.
BOOTS ON THE GROUND
The Hard Hat Heroes I embed myself with are all boots-on-the-ground type people. There’s a plan on paper but you ALWAYS have to deal with the reality of how it unfolds in front of you, the curveballs, Hard Hat Heroes are about getting their hands dirty and finding a solution!
STAY CURIOUS
You never know where a single question may lead, never underestimate that one question, that single question can open up infinite possibilities. Let experts do the talking; that’s your cue to listen and learn.
LEAD
You setup the parameters of the mission and lead the way; that way everyone knows how they fit into the game plan and they are all working towards the same goal and mission objective. These are all key leadership qualities I’ve seen in a diverse range of people and jobs on my missions around the globe; from Captains of aircraft carriers to engineers running the world’s largest offshore fish farm... strong leadership is the key to getting the job done.
THE MISSION
There is a mission to complete, and you WILL get it done! It just takes the right kind of plan. For instance, watching pilots learning and training to land on an aircraft carrier for the first time, they’re embracing the experience IN THE MOMENT and it’s about being in the zone. There’s no ‘maybe I can do this’ in the world of Impossible Repairs, it’s “I WILL do this.” I’ve seen these amazing people overcome their own fears and build their confidence to get the job done, countless times.
MISSION MINDSET
There’s a big difference between approaching something as a JOB… (because nobody wants to do a job!), as opposed to embarking on a MISSION! I don’t say ‘we have a job to do’… it’s ‘we have a mission to complete’ – why? When you’re on a mission, you are ALL IN. A job says ‘task’, implying that you do what is expected and required. A mission is you’re all in – you accept that things may not be straightforward, you hope that it WON’T BE by the book because what fun would that be?! You want the challenges, and you open yourself up to learning, testing yourself, and overcoming the obstacles that come your way. Every episode of Impossible Repairs is like this… because we not only expect challenges…we love it when they come our way!
